I know a lot of parents feel pretty anxious about being in front of the camera so soon after you bring your baby home – and that’s why my no-stress approach is perfect! You can be yourselves and I’ll ensure you look fantastic! Some new moms also opt to book an awesome stylist I work with, who will come to their homes to do hair and makeup. Worried about the state of your house? I’ve got your back.
I often photograph newborn sessions in one small area of your home – sometimes the bedroom, sometimes the living room – and I have a knack for ensuring you can’t see any other part of the room. If there are diapers in the corner, no sweat! Leave them there.
Mid-morning is often an ideal time for your new baby’s feeding schedule and it’s the perfect time for natural light. I always come a bit early and it’s no problem for me to wait while your baby sleeps or feeds, so there’s no rush! My style is more on the candid / lifestyle side of things. All that means is I’m capturing the as-it-happens moments between you and your new baby without a lot of awkward, stiff-and-formal posing.
As you can see in the photos below, I keep things natural and fun. You can change your baby into several outfits and we’ll get a nice amount of variety. All you have to do is hold your baby and enjoy!
For booking your session… I’m pretty flexible, so if you give me a heads up about your due date, we can schedule a tentative time about two weeks after you expect your baby to be born. If baby is a little early… or a little late… no worries! We’ll confirm the session day and time once we know for sure your newborn is here!
We were thrilled when Salina and Paxton let us know they were expecting a little one this September. And we were even more thrilled when they asked us to photograph their maternity portraits at the same place we had their engagement pictures – Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. We can’t wait to meet their beautiful baby when she arrives!
