I’ve moved this post up because I just photographed this family two years later playing on the beach in Victoria. I love creating photo sessions that become a memory the kids can look back on over and over again in the years to come.
How do you keep a toddler interested in having his portraits taken with his newborn brother? Don’t ask anyone to pose! When it comes to newborn photography I take the pressure off “look at the camera and smile” photos and instead focus on the love families have for their children. This at home session was so much fun and we simply spent our time playing and having fun in the living room, while showing off their newest addition to the family. I just gave some easy-to-follow directions like, “sit on the couch together and cuddle,” “play on the ground with your toddler,” or “hold your newborn and give him kisses,” and the result is nothing but magic. And believe it or not, this session was only 20 minutes! We can get a lot of variety in a short period of time when we keep things candid and natural. Having a new baby sometime soon? Why not book a natural newborn photo mini session?
