Johnny’s roots run deep in the Portuguese-Canadian community and Katrina’s roots run deep in the Greek-Canadian community, so it was going to hard to decide on a church. And that’s why it’s fortunate that, despite a fierce rivalry in local soccer, the Greek and Portuguese communities are pretty close — So close their churches are across the street from each other! So, it was decided… Katrina & Johnny would have not one, but two wedding ceremonies. Since Katrina is a fashionista, we knew she was going to have an epic wedding gown, and WOW she did not disappoint! For the Portuguese ceremony she wore a chic, retro-inspired, tea-length dress that could have been on a runway. And for the second ceremony it was a custom Lis Simon for the whimsical win! As I’m sure you can imagine, a celebration like this requires a lot of planning, and that’s where Emma McCormick and her team came in. And WOW they blew everyone away. Now for the icing on the cake… Johnny’s parents run Casa Nova Catering and Decorating, the team that created the decor. They completely converted the entire hall into a little piece of Greece, equipped with a pergola (made by Johnny and his cousins) that went over the 40-foot head table. When it was time for the party, the 350 guests did just that, starting with a confetti-bomb first dance, followed by a father-daughter-boogie-on-the-picnic-table. And no Greek wedding would be complete without a smashing of the plates somewhere in the mix! Throughout the whole day I kept thinking, ‘It’s awesome to see a family that are friends, and friends that are family.’ Katrina & Johnny, it was a huge honour to have been a part of your epic, joy-filled Greek-Portuguese wedding!
