Newborn and big brother photos – Victoria BC

A three year old big brother kisses his newborn baby sister while laying on the floor. the photo is a newborn portrait taken in Black and white by lifestyle family photographer Christina Craft in Victoria BC. The photo is in the family's home.

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this family a few times, including when their oldest was only a five-day-old newborn! When they asked if I would take their new baby girl’s photos I was thrilled! Big brother’s clearly taken his new role seriously—he was sweet, gentle, and proud to show her off. We even included grandma, who was visiting to help out. Everyone had settled into the rhythm of a new baby at home, and I was there to document it.

It’s a different kind of calm when a second baby arrives. Parents already know the drill, and the older sibling adds a whole other dynamic. It’s not just about the baby anymore—it’s about watching the family grow into something new. These kinds of sessions are always a reminder that even everyday stuff can be worth hanging onto.

Wondering about having a newborn photo session youreself? Newborn sessions are relaxed and baby-led. If your little one needs to feed or be changed, we take the time—that’s all part of it. I usually photograph in the comfort of your home, and I don’t need a tidy space to make good photos. If you want to change outfits or include siblings or grandparents, we can do that too. My background is in documentary journalism, so I approach each session with storytelling in mind. No stiff posing—just gentle guidance, and a focus on what makes your family yours.
