There’s no question, choosing what to wear for a family portrait session can be daunting for anyone. That’s why I’ve created this little guide to help make it easy for you to choose something that will make you look and feel awesome during your family portrait session.
My number one piece of advice when it comes to what to wear for your family portrait session is to think timeless. Whether you plan to have your photos on your wall in a frame (or rotating in a digital frame), or you’re aiming for an album, you want to make sure the styles you choose will stand the test of time.
Jeans, or formal attire? You do you. These are YOUR photos, and that means you should LOVE how you look whether you’re wearing something fancy or casual.
Do’s
Try to wear solid colours, if possible (but don’t sweat it if you only have patterns in your wardrobe). When it comes to patterns, choose the most simple and classic. Loud, attention-grabbing patterns may date your images and steal attention away from your face.Rather than matching, why not choose complimentary colours that suit the season.
Don’ts
There aren’t a lot of don’ts… but I recommend to leave anything neon at home. Light reflects the neon colour onto your faces and most people don’t want a neon pink face. 🙂
Unless you’re all dressing up in unified baseball jerseys or rock shirts that represent something important to your family, avoid large letters and numbers on your clothing since they will steal attention away from your faces.
